Future Health 2050: The Sensory Hospital

In collaboration with

This two-part webinar series, The Sensory Hospital, running from 30 April and 1 May, features ambitious projects and research at the intersection of integrated art, architecture, and technology, which are helping to transform hospitals from bland spaces into sensorially rich places.

Neuroscientists now believe there may be anywhere
between 22 and 33 senses (or more). We believe it is time to rethink how a robust, multi-sensory approach can contribute to better wellbeing in hospital environments of the future.

In these two webinars, we’ll see how digital artwork can stimulate patients’ vision and activate their proprioception – allowing doctors to tune into diagnosis more playfully. We’ll explore the benefits of texture, audio, and haptics in art and wayfinding schemes. We’ll understand how research into multisensory environments and activities can boost recovery times and clinical outcomes. We’ll see extraordinary artworks at the intersection of lighting, coding, and sculpture, which are contributing to better sleep and recovery cycles. And we’ll learn how organic materials can restore a sense of the organic, and with it, a mindful peace before treatment.

Organised by European Healthcare Design in collaboration with Art in Site, and broadcast live on SALUS TV, both 90-minute episodes will see each panellist give a brief presentation on their work, followed by a panel discussion and ample time for audience questions. We expect a multidisciplinary, international audience of designers, architects, artists, healthcare planners, and a general public to watch the live stream.
